An older article wrote years ago that I published here since I believe the concept is still relevant.
I can understand how someone would want to be transgender. I truly believe the people who were born one gender yet claim that they have always felt they were the opposite. I believe that people should be able to have surgery performed that lets them choose to identify as a different gender if they wish.
This trans-racial thing got me thinking. I was born white, but if I woke up and said ‘today I choose to identify as African or Asian American’, there should be nothing to stop me from doing so. But should I choose to do that, would I also be entitled to affirmative action preference and protection? It seems that since the government separates people by race, and anyone can now identify as whatever they want, affirmative action is no longer needed.
I believe everyone should be able to identify as ___, whatever that may be as long as it does not infringe on my right to do my own thing. The minute a person begins to utilize different aspects of the law to their advantage that they otherwise could not with their previous race; I will question their true intent. If trans-racial is legitimized, we would need to eliminate affirmative action, if we didn’t; it would open the door to people being able to change their racial identity at times when it is most beneficial for them.
